Kemba Smith Pradia was a huge success at YWCA Luncheon
Advocate and Author Kemba Smith Headlined 17th Annual Event
Nearly 400 guests attended the 17th Annual YWCA Luncheon at the Hilton Memphis March 5 to hear advocate and author Kemba Smith speak about her riveting case – followed in the media by millions nationwide during the 1990’s. She has tirelessly advocated for the reform of mandatory sentencing laws since President Clinton granted her clemency in 2000. She also signed copies of her memoir: Poster Child: The Kemba Smith Story. Additionally, the local youth music group Personal Praise performed “Mommy Be Careful,” a song dedicated to raising awareness and funds for domestic violence prevention. Mistress of Ceremonies was Ursula Madden, news anchor for WMC Action News 5. Major sponsors for the YWCA Luncheon were Verizon and Cargill, with additional support from Brown Baptist Church, MLGW and Bolton High School. The luncheon raised funds for the YWCA Greater Memphis, eliminating racism and empowering women since 1919.
